Children follow the footsteps you leave, not your words. Pay attention to the marks you leave.

Mother

Allah commands:

 "And your Lord has decreed that you worship non but Him, and that you be dutiful towards your parents. Whether one or both of them reach old age in your life, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not disrespect them but speak to them a noble word." 

(17:23)

Speak generous word to your parents

And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word.

Surah Al-Isra 17: 23

Be merciful to your kids

Being kind and merciful to your kids is one the easiest Sunnah to follow. Deal with them with love, kindness and respect.
